So you have a big meeting coming up, a presentation for class, an interview, or a job fair coming up, and you aren't sure whether the outfit you picked out is business professional or business casual. You've been told by your professors and friends what they think business professional is, but you still aren't entirely clear on what the guidelines are. Well, don't worry, everyone has been in the same boat at one time or another. However, they did not have the resources of the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity to help them!

Here is YOUR Delta Sigma Pi - Lambda Xi How To Dress Guide!

Business Casual

For Women:

Business Professional

For Men:

  • You do not always have to wear a suit jacket. In today's world, more and more men are looking at cardigans to replace their bulky jackets. We generally recommend that you check with how your coworkers dress when it comes to this item in particular, but pairing a cardigan with nice pants, sleek shoes, and a solid tie can pull together a professional outfit. They can also be worn under jackets for chilly Winter days.
  • Collared, button-down shirt that has been ironed can never go wrong.
  • Make sure your tie isn't too long! The point should barely cover the belt.
  • Match your pants to your jacket, whether it is a pattern or solid color.
  • Combed/brushed hair.
  • Dark socks.

For Women:

  • No messy buns or crazy hair styles! Business professional should generally stay sleek and stylish, whether your hair is up or down.
  • Generally, a black pantsuit or jacket-skirt combination is always safe, but do not be afraid to experiment with colors and patterns. Especially in today's expressive world, the way you dress portrays how you brand yourself.
  • Keep make-up to a more minimal look; neutral tones, natural-looking brows, and a light contour are a safe bet.
  • Jewelry should be kept pretty simple.
  • Skirts should not come up higher than above the knee.

Sometimes, the dress code for any workplace varies, depending on the work culture, so our tips are typically based on the work culture of companies brothers/alumni/professors have experience with and some light research. Be sure to check with coworkers about the workplace culture to be sure you never come over- or under-dressed!
